Hi, I’m Jacob! I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist but you might also call me an awkward people groupie and a neuropsychology nerd. As a mental health counselor, I understand and work best with people who feel different, and sometimes awkward or left out. They are often trying to figure out how to cope with anxiety, depression, trauma, or their relationships. They feel on edge, doubting themselves, and wondering if their current reality is all that there is to life. They also have difficulty expressing their thoughts, feelings, and needs to others and feel like things will never get better.
I know from my own path to wellness and 15+ years as a counselor that you have the resources within you to handle all of the things you are facing and to experience a sense of deep calm and well-being about things that have previously caused you suffering. In our work together, I can help you understand yourself and your experiences better. We will explore your struggles and identify how to transform your trauma into strength. I have specialized training in addressing anxiety, trauma, and relationships and would love to share what I’ve learned with you.
And in case you’d like to know a few more details about how I got here, I’m happy to share those too. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Then, I headed to Louisville, KY to earn a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and a Master’s degree in Religion from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Afterwards, I worked for several years with teens, young adults, and their families, especially ones who had been or were currently involved in the foster care system. I followed my spouse to a job in 2014, and settled into South Carolina with adjunct teaching and a private practice. Since moving to Tennessee in 2020, I have continued to work with individuals, couples, and families. I’m especially passionate about supporting the LBGTQ+ community, and people with marginalized identities. When I’m needing to rest or relax, you can find me baking bread, playing video games, reading comic books, building LEGO, or spending time with my family. I hope you’ll reach out today to schedule an appointment.
