A Different Approach to Counseling

A client-centered, trauma-informed experience

Oak Ridge Counseling Center: A Trauma-Informed Organization

As a TIC organization, we recognize trauma as a behavior-influencing force in the lives of many individuals. By recognizing the effects of trauma, we can better treat individuals with dignity and respect, without presupposing that something is “wrong” with them and allowing us to address the root cause of unhealthy patterns of behavior.

Our Guiding Principles

Helping People Resolve These & Other Issues:

  1. Anxiety
  2. Hopelessness
  3. Anger
  4. Exteme Loss/Grief
  5. Issues of Abuse or Trauma
  6. PTSD
  • Heather has vast knowledge of the development of teens, and is aware of the unique issues they face. She is able to differentiate between common teen problems and bigger issues that need specific therapies. She has a wonderful rapport with her clients, and instantly makes them feel comfortable. Heather has helped my teen through some complex challenges over the past year, and has been persistent in identifying and treating core issues. I have seen my teen become stronger and more resilient with Heather’s techniques. She has also reached out to communicate with us as parents when appropriate, which was beneficial and appreciated.

  • I’ve had a few therapists in the past, never developing the comfort to share what I need to share. I suffer from anxiety and since starting my sessions with her I feel less anxious, more confident, understood, accepted and I don’t feel judged. We’ve been working through EMDR and it’s been a great process so far, she always makes sure I feel safe and if I need to stop I can, there is no pressure. I am looking forward to my journey of healing and thankful to have Heather to guide me through it.

  • Heather Phillips has been there for our family when we have needed her the most. Family members and those dealing with addiction and mental illness often times feel paralyzed and alone. We sure did. When we found Heather we found hope. Her kindness, knowledge, and foresight is something not easily found. We believe our son is in the best great hands possible. She truly cares. This is more then just a job for her. Our family recommends Heather to anyone looking for support and guidance with addiction and over all well being. You won’t be disappointed!
